Micro and Small Enterprises in Odisha to adopt Internet to help revive their businesses
There are 1 lakh 10 thousand MSME units in Odisha, out of which only 500 to 600 units have been registered through District Industries Centres and invested 500 to 600 crore. About 20,000 of these are sick and around 10,000 are passing through incipient sickness.In this scenario, the Interactive Seminar "Internet for MSMEs", organized by Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF) ,Young India, DISHA and supported by Verisign & Ministry of MSMEs at Bhubaneswar on May 31, 2011 was a timely initiative to help the MSMEs in understanding about the means they can employ to make themselves visible to and connect with customers globally in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

The Internet is widely acknowledged as a rich and powerful medium for businesses of all sizes to create awareness about their products and offerings. There are nearly 81 million Internet users in India and over 1.9 billion Internet users that exist worldwide. Businesses that are not present on the Internet will miss out on being found by these net-savvy users who shop around for different vendors for products and services.
Small and micro entrepreneurs from various business sectors attended the event and there was participation of various officials from Odisha's Department of Textiles & Handloom, Department of IT, District Industries Centre, Bhubaneswar, State Institute for Development of Arts & Crafts, and Coir Board.
The e-MSME tutorial covered the best practices and case studies of micro and small enterprises that have used Internet profitably, including various Internet tools & strategies for building sustainable businesses with profitable growth. .
Young India and DISHA were the local organisers of this event. Noted social activist N.A.Shah Ansari facilatated the event and among others Osama Manzar,Director,DEF, B.K. Dash, General Manager,DIC,Bhubaneswar, B.B.Dhal, General Manager,DIC,Cuttack, Kartik Taneja, Versign Naming Services, Hrudanand Satapathy,CEO,SADHAK were present. 126 entrepreneurs attended this prog. At last Mohd Niyaz, Director, DISHA proposed vote of thanks.
